It was less than a week before the biggest Quidditch match of the season, and as usual Sirius was getting a little nervous. This year, if they didn’t win, everything was on his head. He was captain, and this would be his first real big thing besides forming the team that he had to do. He got up early that morning, and put on a burgundy muscle shirt, and pair of black basketball shorts. He went for a run, four times around the lake, forty five minutes just about. That was a good four miles, once around the lake had to be at least a mile. He had come back up to the Common Room sweating like crazy, his black hair was soaked, and he was panting a fair amount. It amazed him that he could still run and be in shape like that the way he smoked. But he always did his best to cut back right before a big match, so he wouldn’t get winded as easily. But then at the victory party, that was another story all together.
His cousin Chase Weasley, one of the Chasers on the team (convenient, his name and position were the same!) saw him sitting on the couch near a window he opened for a cool breeze. “Out for a run already eh? Shouldn’t you be saving your energy for the skies?” he said with a smirk. Sirius was still catching his breath but soon turned to his cousin to speak.
“Go get your practice clothes on, Chase, meet me down there in half an hour, and make sure everyone else knows we’re starting early,” he said and Chase nodded.
“Aye, Aye, Captain,” Chase joked and Sirius glared at him, knowing that his cousin was only trying to lower his stress level. Chase walked up stairs and started running to his teammates dorms to let them know the time change, and to get into his practice clothes rather than his jeans and hoodie.
Sirius meanwhile moved from the couch, took his wand out of his pocket and waved his wand, ‘Accio Firebolt 3000’ he said mentally and the broom came zooming down the steps from the boys’ dormitories. Now he left the common room, and started to make his way down to the Quidditch pitch, professional broom in hand. Sirius was in line to get scouted out the next year for professional Quidditch, and he refused to give up that dream, no matter what came to him. Yes, he was good in classes, and he was definitely good in defense and creatures, but he could never give up his dream in Quidditch. It had been his passion long before school and he knew it wouldn’t die just because he was finished in school.
Sirius was down at the pitch fifteen minutes before he wanted anyone else there, so he mounted his broom, and kicked off from the ground, taking a few laps around the pitch, getting the feel for the air today. His adrenaline was pumping, thinking of next weekend when he would be shaking hands with Malfoy, the Slytherin Captain, getting ready to slaughter her team. While he flirted with her, and really seemed to be taking a great liking to her or not, he had promised he would not go easy on her. He was ready to win this match, at all costs, injury or no. He was actually, quite prepared to take an injury in this match, it didn’t feel like quite as good a victory if he was not nearly knocked two hundred feet out of the air.
He settled himself in front of the goal hoops, and waved his wand at the box of balls on the ground, and the red Quaffle came zooming out of the box towards him. It flew around the back side of the goal posts, towards the furthest left, and Sirius zoomed through the hoop and caught the Quaffle in his arms and his gut, which would knock the wind out of anyone else, but he had been at this since he was six years old, when he saw his first match and decided he wanted to be a keeper. Now, ten years later, he was the best keeper Gryffindor has seen since Oliver Wood, and actually, his father had arranged him to be trained by him at one point, Wood having to take time out of a busy schedule as a professional Quidditch player himself, was happy to help the young boy (at the time a first year) learn the ropes better. He had even said he might show up to see a match or two this year.
The Quaffle now released, had flown around to the other end of the field and headed down and up again to swing around one of the lower hoops and attempted to pass through the highest middle one, and Sirius caught it with the ends of his fingers, his knuckles white from the pressure of the impact when it hit his hands. Sirius was now just waiting for the rest of his team, and when he looked down, a red haired boy and a blond one were on their way to mount their brooms, a few models older than Sirius’s. It was of course, Chase and a fellow teammate, a fifth year, Kale Montague, who played beater. “Oye!” Sirius called down at them, and the two looked up and saw Sirius let go of the Quaffle again, and make one more spectacular save before waving his wand at the ball to get it back in the box for the time being. “Everyone’s on their way, right?” Sirius asked the two anxiously, and they nodded. Everyone should be on the way as far as they knew.

as the biggest quidditch match of the season was less than a week away, sirius potter, captain of the gryffindor team, was making them practice as much as possible. if there weren't any classes, he would have had twenty four seven practices, knowing sirius. while everyone else on the team seemed to get nervous for the match, the team's seeker, claire pierce, rarely was, for anything. this time was no exception. it was only the slytherins, after all, in her mind. with a heavy sigh, claire pierce sat up in bed, mentally cursing sirius in her head for the early morning practice - he'd probably make it even earlier, so she got up earlier just in case - and his nervousness. he was a bit too obsessed with his dream of becoming a professional quidditch player, claire thought in annoyance. while she would never admit it, she was pretty sure that he probably had a guaranteed spot on a team, as she was sure she did too. yes, sirius was probably one of her best friends in the world - and partner in crime, as well - but sometimes she really just wanted to kill him. or severly injure him. why? he smoked too much, was an alcoholic, and went from girl to girl, for starters. but mostly it was because sirius had a bit of an ego. oh, and his obsession with his dream.
claire got out of bed quietly, as to not wake up her dorm mates. claire went and showered, dried her long hair with a quick spell, and put on some practice clothes. she grabbed her broom, a firebolt 3000, the newest broom out, though she already had a promise from her father that he'd put in an early order for the next new model, so that she might even get it before anyone else did - including sirius. she grinned at the thought and then headed down to the common room. she set her broom down on a table and collapsed onto a couch, surprisingly not hyper yet. chase told her about the time change as he passed her on his way up to the boys' dorms, so claire hurried back upstairs to her own dorm. she went over to juniper hollis, the only other girl on the team. claire shook her awake, saying, "earlier practice." when she was awake, claire went back downstairs with her broom and started for the great hall and the kitchens. she pushed easily through a crowd second and third years, most of whom were taller than her, that moved away from her quickly.
she mentally reminded herself that she had about fifteen minutes left, and that sirius would threaten to kill her if she was late, but she didn't mind. sirius could wait. claire slipped into the kitchens, and a group of house elves surrounded her. "three chocolate chip pancakes and coffee, please." claire waited impatiently, sipping the coffee and feeling the caffeine begin to wake her up and get her going, even though she didn't like the taste of coffee that much. the pancakes were finished and claire grinned a little - dessert for breakfast, just what she needed. she quickly finished them, thanked the house elves, and hurried out of the kitchens and outside. claire was itching to fly, though she waited to get to the field. when she got there, only sirius, kale, and chase were there. "hey," she said, speaking to kale and chase, and then glaring at sirius without any real anger - though he didn't have to know that.
occ; bad post? i'm sick. no muse. but wanted to post with claire. :] oh, and padfoot, i'm assuming they're still best friends? we couldn't not have a sirius and claire evil duo, could we?

Juniper Hollis was not a morning person at all. With a groan she got up out of her bed and stretched out. Her wavy red hair was matted and messy and she had a bit of a headache from when she slipped and fell down the stairs yesterday. She groaned again and threw on her most comfortable clothes, a pair of red sweatpants with the Gryffindor logo on them and a white tank-top and put her hair up in a loose bun. She was going to spend the day relaxing and maybe even Reading a book or something. Of course the book would be "Quidditch Through the Ages" which was in her opinion, the only book that mattered.Usually, she was never up that early but she couldn't sleep and now that she was up she couldn't go back to bed. With an irritated sigh she quietly left the dormitory with her book in hand and cautiously crept down the stairs and into the Common Room.
As she entered the Common Room, she had run into Chase Weasley, another Gryffindor and one of her team-mates who had informed her of their early practice. So, now Juniper was making her way to wards the Quidditch Pitch, Firebolt in hand. She was still wearing her "bum" clothes as she called them along with a white "IRELAND" sweatshirt because she decided that if she was going to be up Early in the morning practicing Quidditch, she might as well be comfortable while doing so.
With a yawn, she arrived at the Quidditch Pitch and waved sleepily at her team-mates, Claire Pierce and Sirius Potter. "Hello mates." she said with another yawn. She was 100% Irish and had a thick brogue. She smiled tiredly and said jokingly "Well, while we wait for the others I think I'm going to nap on the grass." She chuckled at her stupid little joke and then stopped talking. It was too early to talk.

O.J. Wood hurriedly crammed another bite of egg and toast into his mouth before shoving himself up from the bench. He was already late, but he needed his extra food. His mouth bulging, he slung his Beater's bat and broom over his shoulders, gave Kelhy Green a parting glare and walked outside.
He looked out onto the pitch and swore loudly. He was late. "Sorry everyone," O.J. called, swallowing the last bit of egg. "I was eating." He gave a sheepish grin: eating was his usual excuse for being late. His team knew that he could not go for more than an hour without eating.
O.J. mounted his broom and soared into the air. "Oye, Sirius,"he called. "Are you gonna let the Bludgers out? I need a quick warm up." He experimentally swung his bat back and forth a few times.

Darien Ross woke with a start to find his dorm completely empty. He glanced at the clock beside his bed and let out a yelp. There was Quidditch practice today, and he was VERY late. He leapt out of bed, hastily pulled on his robes, and grabbed his broom from his trunk. He didn't bother to comb his hair before sprinting down into the common room, which he found to his dismay to be quite deserted.
He ran through the halls, ignoring the comments from a few talkative paintings and sprinting right past the Great Hall, where everyone was finishing breakfast. He was late, and not all that hungry... he groaned as his stomach growled. Maybe he was hungry, but that wasn't really important. As he dashed over the grounds and the Quidditch Pitch came into view, he saw that at least half the team was already in the air.
He stopped as he finally reached the field and doubled over, panting and clutching the stitch in his side. Once he'd recovered enough to breath normally and stand up straight, he mounted his broom and pushed off from the ground, flying up to meet his team mates. "Sorry I'm late," he called by way of a greeting. "Why didn't anybody wake me up?!"

Sirius watched silently as his team slowly filled out onto the field before taking flight. Right after Claire got there, Chase got out a Quaffle and started to toss the red ball to the hoops, giving Sirius more of a work out than the hexed Quaffle had done for sure. The two were going at it vigerously when the team seemed to have finished joining them. Sirius caught the Quaffle once more, but this time, instead of tossing it back to Chase he kept it, and looked his team over.
Already there was Chase, Kale Montague, Claire Pierce, Juniper Hollis, O.J. Woods. Chase was a cousin of his, and Claire was one of his best friends, so if they had not been on the team before the try-outs, people might have thought they had not earned their places. Until of course, they saw them in action. He knew people would realize that all their positions were well deserved and earned once they saw them play.
OJ called out and asked when they were taking the bludgers, and Kale Montague looked up hopefully also, the two were crazy with those bats, and sometimes Sirius was afraid to let them have them, laughing to himself about that thought as he saw OJ swing his bat, he called back down at him. “Now, if you want, or take a few warm up laps, first!” he called and Kale nodded and went to the box to get the black rogue balls out to start practice.
It took Darien the longest to get to practice this morning; apparently he did not get the memo. When he walked up to practice, he apologized for being late, and Sirius looked down at him from his position up at the hoops, missing the first Quaffle he had missed all morning when Chase threw it passed him, and it smacked the goal hoop as it fell through it, and Sirius flew down a few feet, caught it, and looked back to Darien. “No worries, Ross. I’m assuming you didn’t know time changed. But think a head next time, first match is this weekend, more practice the better!” Sirius called out to him, but not in what was mean to be a rude way, even if it did come out that way.
“Just get in the air, and take a couple laps before you grab the Quaffle from Chase and try getting it past me. Then we’re going to do a back and forth thing with you, Juniper and Chase. Up and down the field, Chase up top on the left, Ross in the middle about thirty feet below and then Juniper between them on the far right. Toss the Quaffle back and forth up and down twice then we’ll go into rounds trying to get it in the hoops past me.” He said with a slightly louder projection to his voice so they could all hear him.
“Montague, OJ!” he called across the pitch to OJ Woods and Kale Montague. “Stop fooling around and start smacking the Bludgers toward something, or someone. For now, until they get back to my end of the pitch, use me as your target,” he said, “But give it two minutes,” he said turning to look at the only member of his team that was left. Claire Pierce. He watched as she flew around with an obvious irritation to her features, and Sirius assumed it was because he had forced her to get up that much earlier than he had already been forcing them to. Either way, he knew his best friend would get over it.
“Claire!” he said loudly, trying to get her attention. “You may have noticed the snitch is not in the box,” he explained. Then he smirked, “Well, I’ve already let it loose before you got here. So you couldn’t even watch it take off. You’ve got fifteen, find it.” He knew that she could do it of course, but as it would annoy any seeker, he was sure it would annoy her. The rules of Quidditch said the Seeker has the privilege to see the Snitch released so you could try and keep tabs on it.
Before Claire could scowl at him, he turned back to OJ and Kale. “Alright Woods, Montague, hit me if you can,” he smirked. Kale sent a Bludger fast at Sirius at the other end of the pitch, and Sirius ducked that one. “Gotta try harder than that!” he said tauntingly. He knew that the best way to get some serious practice in, was to piss off everyone so that their anger, nerves and adrenaline goes up and everyone gets more on target than usual.
This method proved consistent as the Chaser’s have not dropped the Quaffle once, and they were almost across the field. He might have to send them back, but change the heights and positions.

O.J. grinned, Sirius didn't know it, but he'd been practicing with Isabel, and his aim had gotten uncannily good. As soon as Sirius turned his back, O.J. whacked a Bludger across the Pitch and it flew less than a millimeter away from his head.
"Are you sure about that Sirius?"O.J. called, laughing. He shot toward the other Bludger and smacked it to Kale, hoping Kale would hit it back. This was a simple drill that he and Kale often did. As soon as the other Bludger was near Kale, O.J. took off after the other one to get it in control.
"Kale!" he called. "Let's do some drills with both of them." He Stunned the Bludger closest to him and hit it slowly to Kale. O.J. quickly unStunned it and began to do a couple of batting tricks.

Juniper sleepily nodded to her late team-mates. Usually, she was a bit more lively than this but she was too tired at the moment. Sirius started barking orders to which Juniper just absent-mindedly nodded her head, until he mentioned her name. When he said her name she snapped to attention and listened to what he had to say. He wanted her, Chase and Darien to do their famous back and forth maneuver. "Aye aye, sir!" she joked and grabbed her broom, ready to get started. One reason why Gryffindor was such a good team was because they all had such great chemistry with each other.
Mounting her broom she looked to Darien and Chase and then set off, taking her position to the right of Darien. "Ready, boys?" she asked them with a smirk. The Gryffindor Chasers were in her opinon the finest in the school and not to sounc cocky but, she always though that she was the best out of the three of them, she just didn't say it out loud. "Make sure you can keep up with me." she said jokingly with a wink to Darien. As soon as she was on her broom she woke up and was ready for action. Flying always had that affect on her.

claire's anger wasn't really there, it was simply just a good way to cover up her unusual tiredness. claire pierce was usually the most hyper girl in the school, but what most people didn't know was that she was an insomniac, and rarely slept well. of course, she had been up all night, writing because she couldn't sleep. writing in her notebook - basically planning a prank on the slytherins for the day before the match.
while claire was mostly still and being lazy in general, sirius was already up in the air with the rest of the team once darien arrived - late, to the annoyance of sirius, she was sure. barking orders, sirius began the practice, though claire ignored him. her eyes followed the golden snitch discreetly, tracking it through the air like she usually did, though this time she just floated around lazily as she waited to find it.
her fingers closed around the snitch, and claire smirked momentarily. then she put the snitch in her pocket and watched the rest of the team. sirius was sounding rude - big surprise - while yelling at his team, and claire rolled her eyes. she still believed that she should have been captain of the gryffindor team, not sirius, something she particularly hated losing.
"claire!" claire turned slightly towards her best friend, looking nonchalant. she knew what was coming. "you may have noticed the snitch is not in the box. well, i’ve already let it loose before you got here. so you couldn’t even watch it take off. you’ve got fifteen, find it." sirius was smirking and claire wanted to hex him quite badly - he looked like a stupid, egotistical slytherin with the smirk. claire returned his smirk with her usual evil grin.
"i found it more than ten minutes ago, in under three." she held the snitch up and then rolled her eyes as she let it go. "do you really underestimate me that much? quite sad, sirius. i've been doing that since i was six, you know that." she darted forward and had the snitch in less than a minute. she glared at him once more. "precious prank time is being used up for me right now. at least let me think - i don't need to practice." she sounded completely rude and annoying as usual, but didn't mind.
she flew off a bit and then turned back to him. "but you know i'll do what i want, anyways." claire smirked and then let the snitch go again, and was off after it after a few seconds. she dodged the bludgers a few times as she passed near sirius. glaring furiously at chase weasley after he or oj aimed it at her head, she flew off, catching the snitch for the third time. they knew what would happen if they injured her. not only would she kill them, but sirius would as well.

Sirius smiled as he got Kale and OJ riled up enough that they started to smack the Bludgers back and forth at one another. The first one that OJ sent towards Kale he hit back fluently, the second on the other hand, the blond boy sent flying back in the direction of Sirius, who merely tried to avoid it by flying a couple inches higher, and he was lucky with that call, for any closer and he would have just broken his foot. “Alright, common now, you’re not off the hook until it hits me!” he smirked at them, knowing any chance to injure the captain was worth it, knowing the nurse could heal him before the match.
Now he slowly turned to look back at Claire, who was talking all smart ass like in the general about how she had found it ten minutes ago. “See, I knew I made a good choice keeping you as seeker!” he grinned, talking mostly to himself, not sure if she could hear him or not. Basically he had let her know that she had proven his point, they had this match made, or so he thought. He was debating about watching the Slytherin practice, acting as though he were simply out for a run, to see how the team looked this year, but he did not feel that was necessary. After all, the Gryffindor team was about the best one he had seen put together in the years he had been there.
He turned back to the Chasers, to make sure they were still doing their drills. “Keep it up, guys! Start moving around a little more,” he suggested and Chase nodded at the captain and started to do a three-sixty around the field, waiting for the others to do similar things and trying to catch the Quaffle at the same time. Now when Sirius looked back to Kale and OJ they seemed to be planning something mentally, those two were always very good at reading each others faces. He knew they had something planned and he couldn’t wait to see what they could come up with. After years of his cousins sending rogue Bludgers after him, by means of a spell they put on it, Sirius had learned very soon not to stay in the line of fire with those things.
Kale was looking to OJ with a hard expression, and just barely moving his lips he mouthed the words, “Both at once towards Sirius. He can’t avoid them both!” He tore his eyes away long enough to bat one of the Bludgers towards OJ as he spun towards him, and then took his eyes back to his teammate with a questioning look as to see if that was the new plan. He figured OJ would agree to a double team attack, and since Sirius had offered to be a target, his getting injured would be his own fault. Then again, it would not be good because the Chaser’s needed some practice against a keeper but still, they had all day, did they not?
Sirius absentmindedly keeping his mind clear, and eyes focused on the two with bats, he was occasionally glancing around at the rest of his team, and decided that after the match was over, they would have to have a break on the practice and maybe have a party instead. Go to Hogsmeade or something instead on one of their practice days. He figured him buying drinks and candy would make up for his dictators attitude during their long practices.

O.J. nodded ever so slightly. As a Bludger came speeding towards him he pulled his muscular arm back to swing. It met the Bludger with a satisfying Crack! at the same moment as Kale's bat hit his Bludger. The Bludgers soared in perfect unison towards Sirius and O.J. cackled. There was no way that Sirius could dodge them both!
